Bleeding Heart: LifelessBleeding Heart: Lifeless

23/09/06  ||  Statik Majik

Another hardcore band from Fullhouse Records (do they even have any other kind of music?). This album itself ain’t that new, but I personally got the chance of checking this fucker out only a month or so ago. 2004 or not, since it’s the latest release from these Finnish fuckers, I’m sure as hell going to review it. And because I got it for free.

The intro for this album sounds alot like Slayer. Honestly, if I’d hear this in some crowded noisy place like a pub, I would be sure that DJ just put on some older Slayer album that I personally don’t own but might’ve heard sometimes, somewhere before. Either way, it fucken rocks. As soon as the 2nd song starts, Bleeding Heart spits out what they’re about. Thrash/death metal influenced hardcore. Even though I never considered myself as a major HC-fan, the more I get familiar with the Fullhouse artists, I am challenged to question my stand on this matter. Honestly, these bands (St. Hood, Down My Throat, Bleeding Heart…) kick ass.

Oh, I’m not sure why, but it just sounds like each and every HC band from Fullhouse digs Entombed. Alot even. This time it ain’t that much about the guitarsound but the actual playing that gives me Tombish vibes. Especially some of the solos sound like they could have been composed by Cederlund and/or Hellid from the mighty Tomb. Is that such a bad thing? Nope, probably not. A bit disturbing maybe, but not bad at all.

In general I appreciate songs that last more than just two/two and a half minutes, but this time I’d say that keeping the songs short is a wise decision. There’s not too much variety in them and longer tracks would probably feel too boring and repetitive. The 2 minutes per track keeps ‘em interesting enough and makes listening to this album a pretty pleasent experience. I also dig that the singer manages to pull of some growls between the “regular” hardcorish kind of yells. Good growls are always a good thing in my book. As are neat, basic heavy guitar-riffs. And fortunately Bleeding Heart delivers enough of those and plenty of aggression to keep me happy.

7/10.
